Why shop Kid to Kid

For almost 30 years, we’ve been paying families to recycle their great kids’ stuff. Each year Kid to Kid stores across the country buy and sell over 2 million items. That means real cash money into the pockets of families in our community – giving a new meaning to SHOP LOCAL! Even more importantly – it means families are saving millions of dollars by shopping at Kid to Kid.  Thank you for being a part of the caring, sharing community at Kid to Kid!

Your Jacksonville Kid to Kid stores love paying local families to recycle their great kids’ stuff. Kid to Kid buys the most current styles and brands that families love to shop.  Brands that sell great in your local market that we can’t get enough of include;

    • Current trendy styles from brands like Crewcuts, Zara, GB Girls, and H&M
    • Beach/surf brands like Hurley, Roxy, Volcom, and O’Neil
    • Bamboo brands like Posh Peanut, Little Sleepies, RAGS
    • Athletic Brands like Adidas, Athleta, Under Armor, Puma, and Nike
    • Vineyard Vines
    • Lilly Pulitzer
    • Beaufort Bonnet
    • Eleanor Rose
    • Smocked items
    • Vans
    • Converse

Customers often ask how we determine what clothing we buy or won’t buy.  Some things we consider that will influence what we are able to purchase from you are….

  1. New parents are gifted so much infant clothing and babies grow too fast to wear it all.  This creates an influx of infant items into our stores.  We are looking for infant items that are in “nearly new” condition in the most current styles.
  2. At about 8 years old, give or take, most kids start having opinions about their style and what they want, and don’t want, to wear.  With limited space available it is important that we purchase for resale the most current, in-demand styles we have found sell well in our store.  The popular/trendy/mall brands are what we are most in need of in size 7+.
  3. The pricing models of the big-box value brands make it difficult for us to resell these brands at a competitive price.  Because these items can be purchased so inexpensively brand new it does not always make sense for us to purchase those brands from our customers.
  4. We consider all sizes and all seasons, all year, but are mindful of our mild Florida winters when considering winter apparel.  This may influence our ability to purchase heavy sweaters, flannel, fleece, corduroy, and lined items.

Some items we specifically do not purchase include car seats and bases, car booster seats, baby monitors, humidifiers, breast pumps, wipe warmers, bottle warmers, food processors, blankets for nursery or decor items, folding tents/tunnels, inflatables, jewelry, stuffed animals, bottles/sippy cups, used underwear/socks, hair accessories. Please call the store directly with additional questions.

*Please note that as of February 22, 2024 Kid to Kid Jacksonville no longer buys maternity or nursing apparel.*

Sell us the great items your kids have outgrown – clothing, shoes, equipment and toys! We purchase preemie/newborn up to size 14 apparel and shoes up to size 5. We buy current style, like new clothes that have been in the retail stores within the last 2 years. We do not do any laundering or cleaning of the items so require they are “resale ready” when brought in to be sold.

We also consider holiday/seasonal items throughout the year.  So bring in your kids’ Halloween costumes, holiday apparel, ski gear, sports team apparel, dance and sports gear.

Prepare your items to ensure the best payout and quickest process.

  1. Freshly launder all clothing items and ensure they are free of stains, rips, tears, pilling, and other wear/tear. Bring your clothing items in laid flat in a box, bin or hamper with outfits together.
  2. Wipe shoes down to remove excessive debris/scuffs.  (Tip – Magic Eraser does wonders on shoe soles.)
  3. Wipe down hard surfaces on equipment and launder any removable cloth pieces.  Check battery compartments for any corrosion.  Ensure tires are fully inflated.
  4. Ensure toys/games have all parts/pieces. Check battery compartments for any corrosion. Ensure all tires on ride-ons, strollers, or bicycles are fully inflated.

You maintain priority when you stay in the store during this process.  While you shop around, our staff will evaluate your items, and determine what we are able to purchase for sale in the store. We will offer you both a cash offer, or 20% more for the items we are able to purchase.  You have the option to accept either of these options, or decline. When you shop and sell with us in the same transaction you also save on your taxes! See store for details.

Prefer not to stay in store while we process your buy? That’s no problem. We will get you checked in as a drop-off and ask that you pre-approve your buy.  We will find out ahead of time if you would prefer cash or store credit for the items we are able to purchase from you and those that we aren’t able to purchase whether you would like to pick those up or have those donated on your behalf to a local charity. The items we purchase from you will be priced, tagged, and processed immediately and you will get an email once your buy is completed.

We look forward to seeing you in soon to shop, sell, and save!

Reduce Pollution

When you choose used instead of new, you reduce your carbon footprint by 60-70%. That’s more impactful than ditching your car and biking every day. Plus, the fashion industry is the second biggest polluter in the world.
