Uptown Cheapskate and Kid to Kid have partnered with buildOn to fund and build schools in rural communities in developing countries. In December 2019, buildOn completed a new school in Vyaka, Malawi funded by your donations. 71% of the Malawian population live below the poverty line and 38% over age 15 are illiterate. The school in Vyaka has approximately 503 young students. The students of Vyaka previously learned in two overcrowded classrooms. With their new facilities, they are able to learn in a functional building equipped with desks, space for every student, and bathrooms.
Temwa Gondwe is 13-years old and in the 4th grade. Her favorite subject is mathematics and she wants to be a nurse when she grows up. Through the donations we've collected at our Charity Fill-A-Bag Sales, you've helped break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and expectations for students like Temwa. The students of Vyaka thank you for your donations!
